Dental Fillings

Dental fillings are one of the most common restorative treatments used to repair teeth that have been affected by decay or minor fractures. You may need a filling if: you have a cavity (dental decay), your tooth is chipped or cracked, an old filling is damaged or leaking, you’re experiencing sensitivity to sweet, hot, or cold foods, or you have worn enamel due to grinding or acid erosion.

Early treatment with a dental filling can prevent more extensive issues—such as root canals or tooth extractions—down the road. That’s why regular checkups and x-rays are so important.

What To Expect

Before getting started, Dr. Stone will take steps to ensure you’re completely comfortable throughout the procedure. He will gently remove the decayed or damaged portion of your tooth and thoroughly clean the area. Once prepared, your tooth will be restored with a durable, tooth-colored composite material designed to blend seamlessly with your natural smile. We take extra care to match the shape and shade of your filling so it looks great and functions properly when you bite and chew. Most fillings are completed in just one visit. If you ever feel anxious about dental care, ask us about our relaxation and sedation options.

Composite (Tooth-Colored) Fillings

At Smile Street, we use composite resin for most fillings. Unlike traditional silver (amalgam) fillings, composite fillings:

  • Match your natural tooth color
  • Require less removal of healthy tooth structure
  • Bond tightly to the tooth for added strength
  • Are free of mercury

Whether you’re treating a new cavity or replacing an old filling, composite material offers a modern, minimally invasive solution.

Protecting Your Smile After a Filling

Once your filling is placed, it’s important to maintain good oral hygiene and routine dental checkups to keep your teeth strong and healthy. With proper care, your filling can last many years.

To avoid new decay around your filling, we recommend:

  • Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
  • Flossing daily
  • Limiting sugary or acidic foods and drinks
  • Visiting our office every 6 months for cleanings and exams

Happy Patients Make Us Smile

"I’ve been a client for over 30 years—and if that doesn’t show how much I love this team. When Dr. Aiello retired, I was devastated—I didn’t think anyone could fill his shoes. But Dr. Stone stepped in and hasn’t missed a beat. I couldn’t be more impressed. If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would!"
